2024 could be the year of Charlie Hull (or maybe just in my eyes). At 28 years old, she amassed over 599k followers on Instagram and generated millions of impressions across social media platforms. She bombs it, is sponsored by Malbon, and always keeps a dart or two handy. Her smoking habits recently caught even more attention due to the smoking ban that exists at the 2024 Olympics in Paris.

The International Olympic Committee (IOC) implemented a strict no-smoking policy across all venues. This rule applies to athletes, staff, and spectators alike. The decision to ban smoking at Olympic venues aligns with global health initiatives to reduce tobacco use and promote healthy lifestyles.  The IOC has a responsibility to ensure a safe and healthy environment for all participants. By prohibiting smoking, the IOC aims to set a positive example and discourage smoking among young athletes and spectators.

Charley Hull has been candid about her smoking habit and its impact on her game. She acknowledged that the ban would affect her, stating, "I think it will. Because it relaxes me a little bit." Despite her reservations, Hull accepted the rule and prepared to compete without her usual routine. Her honesty and openness about her habit have endeared her to many fans.

Charley Hull's opening round at the Olympic women's golf tournament did not go as planned. She shot a disappointing 9-over-par 81. Hull attributed this poor performance not to the smoking ban but to an injury she sustained weeks before the tournament. She explained that she hurt her shoulder while getting out of the shower, leading to arthritis and a period of inactivity. This injury left her feeling rusty and unprepared for the competition.

Since the beginning of time golf and nicotine have gone hand in hand. Golfers have relied on nicotine to help ease their nerves and improve their focus in the heat of battle. As smoking cigarettes has become more taboo in recent years (in the USA), golfers have opted to consume their nicotine in different forms... heck, even Tiger is no stranger to an upper deck.

Hull currently sits T37 (81-71-69) with on more round to be played. Her first round 81 put her in a difficult position. Hopefully she can ride her current momentum and finish out the 2024 Olympics with a solid finish.
