TopGolf just unveiled a new style of golf club they believe will help level the playing field for new golfers. The Sure Thing is a nonconforming driver (not for sale) available exclusively for use at TopGolf. Designed by Callaway, the club aims to deliver the "euphoric" moment we've all experienced that made us lifelong fans of the game.

TopGolf's CEO Artie Starrs emphasized the company's mission to make golf more enjoyable and accessible for everyone. He highlighted the importance of creating a positive and thrilling experience for new players. "At TopGolf, we exist to bring joy through more ways to play the game of golf, and The Sure Thing is one way we're delivering on that purpose," said Starrs in a release. "We want everyone to experience the thrill of hitting the ball solidly and into the air, and designing a club with new players in mind is our way of helping to make that happen."

  • Club Features:

  • Huge Clubface: The clubface is larger than that of a traditional driver.

  • More Loft: Many beginner golfers prefer to book time on the second level at TopGolf because they struggle to get the ball in the air. The Sure Thing driver combats this with 20 degrees of loft, equivalent to a standard 4 hybrid.

  • Shorter Shaft: The shorter shaft of the Sure Thing driver makes the club easier to control and hit for beginners. The shaft length is estimated to be similar to that of a 5 wood.

The Sure Thing Golf Driver was rolled out with several marketing tactics. Notably, participants who used the driver during it's unveiling were eligible for complimentary chicken wings—winner-winner chicken dinner, literally.

Will Topgolf's new 'Sure Thing' golf club turn more beginners into real golfers?

TopGolf is all about providing its guests with a fun and memorable experience. If they can enhance their guests' enjoyment by making the game easier, they jump at the opportunity. There’s no doubt TopGolf has significantly influenced the game's growth in popularity, especially among younger demographics. According to recent reports, 75% of TopGolf’s guests are between the ages of 18 and 34. This younger audience, often attracted by the venue's social and entertaining atmosphere, represents a significant shift in the traditionally older golf demographic.

One of the biggest challenges for new golfers is the steep learning curve. The frustration of poor shots can deter people from continuing. By removing the initial barriers to success, TopGolf has the potential to create more serious golfers. So what do you think. Is the Sure Thing good for the game of golf?
